Yayoi Kusama Escape Room

It is pretty clear to most of us that art makes a difference in our lives.  We don't make art because we hate it. We make art because it does something to make us feel something.  It also effects the viewers of the art to charge their emotions and feel something as well.

We are going to spend a lot of time this semester making things, using ideas and the elements and principles of design to change how we create so that our work is  strong and communicates well.  So thinking "out of the box"  we are going to start by looking at an artist that should have been famous, (is famous but we don't know her).

I have been all over the country to visit art museums and have not seen her work.  She is not in any art appreciation book or art history book that I am aware of.  She made art in the sixties with Andy Warhol, and showed in nationally re known shows, both here and in Europe.  She is the inventor of the idea of the infinity room in art. She spent her life from early teens until her nineties making art, but was not recognized nationally and internationally as important until she was over seventy years old.

Yet, here it is over thirty years later that she is just now having big shows in museums and is in the press.  Oh, I forgot to say, she is from Japan, so she was marginalized for being a woman, a Japanese woman, and just happen to have battled illness all of her life. Now she is over ninety years old and still makes art every day, all day long.  I first saw her work because she is the first woman artist to have a balloon that she designed in the Macy's 2020 Thanksgiving Day Parade.

We will start by taking a look at pop artist,Yayoi Kusama, and play our way out of an escape room. There are a number of delightful children's books on Yayoi, so you may have heard of her.
